Dr Pietro De Matteis is Lead for Engagements and Policy Officer in NATO’s Indo-Pacific section, where he develops policy and fosters cooperation with officials and civil society stakeholders across the region. Previously, he spent over 14 years with the European Union, primarily at the European Commission and European External Action Service, serving in roles spanning public diplomacy, international programmes and EU external relations. He holds a PhD in International Studies from the University of Cambridge and a Master’s degree from the European College of Parma. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Milan-Bicocca and was a visiting scholar at Columbia University and Renmin University. He has also served as a City Councillor in Brussels and led several organisations supporting European citizens’ engagement.
