Dr Solomon Passy is a former Bulgarian Foreign Minister who played a key role in securing Bulgaria’s accession to NATO and the EU. In 1990, as a Member of Parliament, he initiated Bulgaria’s bid to join NATO and supported the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. He later served as Chairman of the UN Security Council and OSCE Chairman-in-Office, as well as Chairman of the Bulgarian Parliamentary Committees on Defence, Foreign Affairs and Security. He founded the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, the first pro-NATO organisation established in a Warsaw Pact country. He holds a PhD in Mathematical Logic and Computer Science and has received numerous international state honours. In 2021, he and the Atlantic Club launched “Hello Space! Bulgaria Calling!”, a NASA-supported programme connecting Bulgarian students with the International Space Station.
